Our own flesh is our greatest enemy and our greatest obstacle in serving God. Our flesh has always been and will always be "at enmity" with God. The enemy of God (Rom 8:5-9, 13:14; Gal 5:16-20; Eph 2:3-5, 1 John 2:15-17, James 4:4). The only thing we can do to please God is to put to death our flesh and all its desires (Gal 5:24). The instrument God gives us to deal with our flesh is the cross of Yeshua Ha-Mashiach #JesusTheMessiah (2 Tim 2:11; Col 3:3; Gal 6:14;). This must happen if we are to be quickened with His Life (Rom 6:1-13, 8:10, 11; Matt 10:38, 16:24, 25; Luke 9:23, 14:27; John 12:24, 25).
God loves His enemies (Luke 23:34a; Rom 5:6-10; Eph 2:1-5; John 3:16). That is the only reason why He instructs us to do the same (Acts 7:60; Matt 5:43-45; Prov 25:21, 22; Luke 6:27, 28). Anyone who doesn't understand and appreciate God instructing us to love our enemies have either never been saved or have forgotten where they came from and who they were before God extended His unmerited favor toward us.
“Love your enemies (ἐχθρός) and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven...” ~Matthew 5:44, 45
"If your enemy (ἐχθρός) is hungry, give him food to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; For you will heap burning coals on his head, And the LORD will reward you." — Proverbs 25:21, 22
Jesus the Christ, the LOGOS of God made flesh, The Son of God who was ONE with the Father suffered physical death of His earthly body for His enemies. That through His incredible act of love and compassion, we might all be saved. What king have you ever heard of that has done such a thing? What Messiah, the KING of kings did for us is repugnant in the eyes of the kings of this world. It would be utter foolishness to them to even think of doing such a thing as He. Some people won’t even give up a little sin to serve Yeshua. Surely hell is the perfect place for such a one who remains stubborn and willingly ignorant of what God has done to redeem mankind.
Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus the Christ) looked at our sin as an illness (Luke 5:30-32; Matt 9:12, 13). An illness which He is ready, able and willing to heal (Isaiah 61:1; Luke 4:18; Psalm 147:3; Malachi 4:2; 1 Peter 2:24). His main purpose was to come to this earth to die for and save us sinners (Is 53). God did this for His enemies. God did this for us. And God instructs us to do the same.
“The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.” 1 John 2:6. The word “ought” here is the English translation of the Greek word “opheiló” (Strong’s #3784) and refers to being morally obligated (or legally required) to meet an obligation, i.e. to pay off a legitimate debt.
We are debtors to God. Because He bought us. He bought us with His blood. We are not our own. We are His. And therefore, we need to seek to do His will with all our heart, mind, soul and strength. This is what the LORD requires of us. If we are walking as He walked then our only enemies will be God’s enemies. This is why it’s so important to walk as He walked. With all diligence, soberness, meekness and love.
Now we pray for, and love our enemies. But our enemies should only be God's enemies. We shouldn't have our own enemies. Because we are supposed to be dead and our life hid with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3).
If we do not pray for our enemies we are acting just like God's enemies again. If we do not pray for and love our enemies, we have forgotten where we came from. If we ever were indeed saved
Loving our enemies is the hallmark (proof) of our conversion. If we do not love our enemies we have either never been converted or we have forgotten where we came from and are acting like hypocrites.
We believers pray for, and love our enemies. Just as God loved us. This is easy instruction to receive if we have truly been on the receiving end of God's love.
Perhaps ask yourself, “Have I ever truly received God's love for me through Jesus the Christ?”
"When a man's ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him." Proverbs 16:7
May God the Father open our hearts to His truth more and more, in Jesus the Christ's Name. Amen
You can be saved!
God loves the people in the world so much that He came down to die for us. If God is opening your heart to His message and you feel convicted for your sins which have separated you from a holy God and you feel the need to be forgiven, then say this prayer. This is how I was powerfully converted to the Christ in 1997!
Say, "My Lord and my God, have mercy on me, a sinner. I believe Jesus the Christ died on the cross and shed His precious blood for the forgiveness of all my sins. I believe Jesus raised from the dead and ascended into heaven and is now on the right-hand side of God listening to this prayer. I open up the door of my heart and I invite You in, Lord Jesus. Thank you, God, for saving my soul and I vow to serve you with all my heart which is the first and greatest commandment. Amen."
